Plastic beads at room temperature are round, with a hole in the middle, but if we put them into an oven – where the temperature is much higher – they melt into a liquid plastic. Liquids take the shape of their container so your heated round beads can now be formed into a new shape!
At what temperature do plastic beads melt?
Ideally, you want to use pony beads , because those have a standard melting temperature (around 400 degrees), but with our mixed assortment, the kids used only mostly pony beads, with others included as they struck their fancy.
How do you bake plastic beads?
The idea is to fill all available space with a bead. You can use a toothpick to help you place them or a pair of tweezers if you need them. Carefully place your baking pan in a 400 degree F oven for about 10 minutes. Start checking them at 5 minutes and they could take as much as 15 minutes to melt properly.
Is it safe to melt plastic beads?

We used clear pony beads, but any kind of pony bead will do. Do a VERY THIN layer of beads in the cookie cutter. If you put too many inside the cookie cutter, you will NOT be able to pop the ornament out of the cookie cutter when it dries. Get creative and use the beads around the cookie cutter for a different look!
How do you melt melty beads in the oven?
Preheat the oven to a low temperature, or around 300 degrees. This might take longer to sufficiently melt the perler beads but if you set the oven to a higher temperature, you risk the beads running together. Place your design on a baking tray with a sheet of parchment paper underneath it.
Can you melt Perler beads in the oven?

Can you melt plastic beads in silicone molds?
It really doesn’t matter if the beads are all upright or on their sides, they still melt together nicely. We used silicone baking cups and filled them with one layer of pony beads. The silicone is awesome because there is nothing for the beads to stick to. Just flip the silicone over and they fall right out.
How can you melt plastic?
Basically, wash the bottles, cut ’em into small manageable chunks and pop them in a metal container and into the oven at 350F. It should take a few minutes for the plastic to melt. But remember, melting plastics will produce fumes which can be harmful if inhaled. Make sure to melt them in a well ventilated area.
